2024 Year in Gaming

Let’s Celebrate

2024 has been quite the year. I am sure that everyone had their share of ups and downs. Hopefully, at least when it comes to our shared passion of video games, we can all look back with joy and contentment in all that we accomplished. These are some of mine.

Inside Gaming

Probably the easiest place to start would be directly inside the curated worlds that we like to visit so much. What video games did I complete this year?

Wow, it’s amazing to look back on that list and think about all the fun I was able to have because of the hard work of so many creators. Thank you! This isn’t to mention the many pick-up and play games I enjoyed such as the wonderful Recharged games from Atari, which if you haven’t tried them, I would highly suggest giving them a try. It also doesn’t include games that I haven’t yet completed. Immortals of Aveum, I’m looking at you.

On the Edge

I also fondly recall so many great things when looking outside of actual video games and into its adjacency.

The most visible, as well as most recent, is the creation of this website and blog! It has been on my list of things I’d like to do for quite some time, and 2024 was the year it came into being. I am so grateful for that. Having never created a website nor being a writer, developer, graphic designer or anything else remotely having to do with a website, I am pretty happy so far with the results. I have no idea where Game-Route will go next, but I am looking forward to finding out.

Tidying up my gaming life and play space proved to be a major accomplishment. I plan on writing future posts with specifics. But in essence I believe I am now in the best possible place, for me, when it comes to balancing my love of video gaming and collecting while keeping material possessions manageable and down to what I truly appreciate. Basically, a solid dose of Marie Kondo for my video gaming life. What has only happened in 2024, however, was a realization that balance did not necessarily mean elimination of those tangible items I enjoyed. I think in the past I was either ‘all or nothing‘. I like where I am now.

My first Sega Saturn console was finally purchased, and have been having such great fun with it! One of the benefits of actively managing game and play space is that it gifts the ability to try out new things. This has been such a fun console to discover games for. I haven’t made it much past Panzer Dragoon Saga this year, but I did play that one through to its completion and loved it. I am looking forward to devoting some solid game play time to the Saturn in the new year.

My Starfield GameCube customization was finally started! This is something that I have had in the works for well too long, but 2024 was finally the year I not only got it started, but also almost got it over the finish line. It would sound a lot better if I could say I was able to complete it, but it’s not quite there yet. I’m excited to share more soon!

Ringing in the New Year

It is with the utmost sincerity that I wish each and every one of you the best as we bring this year to a close. I hope that everyone has had their share of 2024 Video Gaming accomplishments. But most importantly, I hope that we have all had fun with video games throughout the year, with the best yet to come!
